John Sebastian Marlow Ward, also known as J. S. M., had a vision early in December 1913 in which he learned of the death of his father-in-law, H. J. L. The vision began with a message that he had died suddenly and went on to show his funeral where Ward and his wife Carrie were present.

This small treatise discusses the paintings and spiritual work of Russian painter Nicholas Roerich.

Dr. Wood was very active in the Society for the Promotion of National Education that was established in 1916 by Annie Besant and others.

The dialogue explores two central questions.  The first question is “what is justice?”  Socrates addresses this question both in terms of political communities and in terms of the individual person or soul. 

The Discourses of Epictetus are a series of extracts of the teachings of the Stoic philosopher Epictetus written down by Arrian c. 108 AD.

This compassionateness of Gautama, if nothing else had been illustrated by the collection, would render it precious to possess and fruitful to employ; but many another lofty tenet of the "Light" of Asia finds illumination in some brief verse or maxim as day after day glides by; and he who should mark the passage of the months with these simple pages must become, I think, a better man at the year's end than at its beginning. I recommend this compilation without hesitation or reserve.

Max Heindel [1865-1919] is recognized as one of the greatest western mystics of the twentieth century. Heindel is the founder of the Rosicrucian Fellowship. The author of a number of Rosicrucian works, Heindel's "The Rosicrucian Mysteries" is regarded as a classic work providing a guide for students to understand basic Rosicrucian teachings.

So incredible is the true esoteric elucidation of the lost meaning of the Scriptures of Christianity that the immediate reaction will generate the demand to know what historical circumstances or developments could have led in the first place to so fateful a loss of vital knowledge once possessed.

Memories of the 'old lady' by some of her pupils including: Laura M, Cooper, G.R.S. Mead, Isabel Cooper-Oakley, Constance Watchmeister, A.P. Sinnett, Charles Johnston, William Q. Judge, Annie Besant, Herbert Burrows, Archibald Keightley, Bertram Keightley, H.S. Olcott and others. This is a very interesting read by those who knew most intimately.

At a time when people could not yet think of public applause or private gain, they thought all the more of truth; and hence the perfectly independent and honest character of most of their philosophy.

As Swami Nikhilananda writes in the preface, "The very name of the book - Self-Knowledge - suggests its perennial interest and universal value. Self-Knowledge is vital. All other forms of knowledge are of secondary importance; for a man's action, feeling, reasoning, and thinking are dependent upon his idea of the Self.
